My experience during a trip to vrindavan
In Vrindavan, where the river flows,
Where the essence of love and devotion glows,
Whispers of Krishna in the breeze so light,
Echoing tales of love, pure and bright.
Lotus blooms beneath the sun's warm embrace,
Each petal a story, a moment in grace,
The scent of incense dances in the air,
As pilgrims gather, lost in prayer.
Temples adorned with colors divine,
Carvings of deities, in beauty they shine,
Every chant, a melody, every prayer, a plea,
In this sacred haven, souls wander free.
Gokul's charm and Yamuna's kiss,
In each corner, a taste of bliss,
Where time stands still, and hearts ignite,
Vrindavan, the spirit's guiding light.
Visiting Vrindavan, the sacred city where Lord Krishna was born and raised, was a long-awaited journey for me and my family. As we packed our bags and made our way to this spiritual haven, I couldn’t contain my excitement. My husband was looking forward to experiencing the serenity of the temples, while our 5 Year-old son, curious about the stories of Krishna, was thrilled to explore the places where the deity spent his childhood. What we didn’t anticipate was how profoundly this journey would impact each of us and deepen our connection to God.
Let me take you through our spiritual adventure, where every temple, every ghat, and every mystical corner of Brindavan left us filled with devotion, joy, and awe.
1. Banke Bihari Temple:
Our first stop was the famous Banke Bihari Temple, one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Krishna. As we entered the bustling streets leading to the temple, my son’s eyes lit up at the sight of colorful shops selling Krishna’s playful toys, flutes, and peacock feathers. The atmosphere was alive with devotion. Inside, as we caught a glimpse of Banke Bihari, Krishna’s playful form with half-closed eyes, my heart swelled with devotion. My husband stood beside me, quietly soaking in the divine energy of the temple, while our son, excited but awed, whispered, "Is that really Krishna, Mama?"
We joined the throngs of devotees chanting "Radhe Radhe," and for that moment, it felt like we had entered Krishna’s playful world. Our son, who had only heard stories of Krishna, was now seeing the divine deity himself, and it was an emotional moment for all of us.
2. Sneh Bihari Temple: A Moment of Peace
After the lively visit to Banke Bihari, we craved a quieter spot to reflect, so we headed to Sneh Bihari Temple, tucked away from the crowds. The peaceful ambiance of this temple was perfect for quiet meditation. My husband and I took a few moments to close our eyes and offer our prayers. Our son, a bundle of energy, sat down next to us, surprisingly calm as he watched the priests offer prayers.
There was something about this temple’s simplicity and serenity that made us all feel a deep sense of inner peace.
3. Prem Mandir: A Wonderland of Devotion
In the evening, we made our way to the magnificent Prem Mandir. The temple, with its white marble architecture, stood like a beacon of divine love. As night fell, the temple illuminated with vibrant colors, turning it into a visual wonder. Our son was completely mesmerized by the lights, running around with excitement, while my husband and I admired the intricate carvings depicting the life of Lord Krishna.
We walked through the temple’s courtyard, pausing at each beautifully sculpted scene of Krishna’s pastimes, explaining them to our son. It was a moment of pure joy as we all connected with Krishna’s stories in a way that felt alive and magical.
4. Yamuna Ghat and Keshi Ghat: A Sacred Experience
The next morning, we visited the sacred Yamuna Ghat and Keshi Ghat, where Krishna is believed to have performed many of his childhood miracles. We decided to take a boat ride on the Yamuna River. As the gentle waters flowed beneath us, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. My husband, holding our son close, told him stories of Krishna’s playful antics by the river, which made him giggle with delight.
At Keshi Ghat, we participated in the Yamuna Aarti, a mesmerizing ritual where lamps are floated on the river. As we watched the diyas flicker in the water, it felt like we were offering our worries and desires to the divine, leaving the moment feeling renewed and purified.
5. Barsana: Radha Rani Temple and Kirti Mandir
Our journey then took us to Barsana, the birthplace of Radha, Krishna’s beloved. Climbing up the hill to the Radha Rani Temple with my husband and son was a spiritual experience in itself. The steep ascent reminded me of the devotion and love that Radha had for Krishna, and reaching the temple felt like an act of love and perseverance.
At the top, the panoramic view of Barsana was breathtaking. We offered our prayers at the temple, and I felt a deep sense of devotion to Radha, the symbol of pure love. We also visited Kirti Mandir, dedicated to Radha’s mother, where the quiet surroundings gave us space to reflect on the power of divine love and family bonds.
6. Nidhivan: The Enchanted Forest of Krishna
Our next stop was Nidhivan, a mystical forest where it is believed that Krishna performs his Raas Leela with the gopis every night. Walking through this forest with its twisted and gnarled trees felt surreal, almost like stepping into a world where the divine and the earthly coexisted. My son clung to my hand, wide-eyed and fascinated by the stories of Krishna’s nightly dance.
There was a sense of awe and mystery in Nidhivan, and we left feeling like we had experienced a hidden part of Krishna’s world.
7. Prem Sarovar: A Place of Love and Reflection
We concluded our trip with a visit to Prem Sarovar, a tranquil lake believed to have been filled with Radha’s tears of love for Krishna. Sitting by the lake, my husband and I found ourselves reflecting on the journey we had taken, not just in Brindavan but in our spiritual lives as well. Watching our son play by the water’s edge, we realized how the stories of Krishna had brought us closer as a family.
Prem Sarovar was a perfect place to end our pilgrimage, offering a peaceful moment of reflection and bliss.
Conclusion
Our visit to Vrindavan was more than just a trip—it was a journey of the heart. For my husband and me, it deepened our connection to Lord Krishna and reminded us of the importance of love, devotion, and family. For our 5-year-old son, it was an introduction to the stories of Krishna, filled with wonder and excitement.
As we left Vrindavan, we carried with us the blessings of the divine, a sense of peace, and a renewed connection to God that would stay with us long after our journey ended. This sacred city, with its enchanting temples, serene ghats, and mystical forests, had touched our souls in ways that words could barely express.
